A HEROIC duo of FATHER and son came to the rescue for the second time in as many months today as they helped rescue a man who got into trouble on the Corrib River in Galway this morning.
Patrick and Morgan Oliver earned many accolades last month when they rescued rowing boats Ellen Glynn and Sara Feeney.
The cousins had spent a whole night at sea and a large emergency response was mobilized with the Olivers who collaborated. They were located in front of Inis Óir.
Fishermen responded to the call again today when someone in the water alarm was raised in the Corrib.
The man was seen in the water by a pedestrian who contacted the coast guard shortly before 9 a.m.
Rescue services were activated, with the Galway RNLI lifeboat launched from Galway docks in a matter of minutes.
The Galway Fire Brigade also assisted in the operation.
The Olivers then managed to get the man out of the water.

He was taken by ambulance to Galway University Hospital.
In a statement, Barry Heskin, who is the deputy launch authority on the Galway lifeboat, said: “The quick response from the pedestrian was crucial in activating rescue services to reach the man in time.”
