The family of Thiago Cortes, victim of a hit and run, can scatter his ashes in a park here because it was “his dream to live in Dublin,” his father said.
Devastated Celso Cortés has said that one of the few things that comforts him at this moment is that Thiago was “living his dream” when he died.
He explained: “Only those who have gone through it can understand the void, the magnitude of the pain.
“It’s complicated, but the comforting thing is that he was there, living his dream.”
Cortes said one option the family is considering is scattering his ashes at Mountjoy Square in Dublin, a park that Thiago particularly liked.
However, no final decision has been made and his remains may also be repatriated to his hometown of Rio.
See you again
Mr. Cortés added: “I will continue to love him for the rest of my life.
“A son does not die, he distances himself. Someday we will see each other again ”.
Both Cortés and Thiago’s fiancee Teresa Dantas praised the support they have received from the Gardai who are hunting down their killers.
Teresa said: “The police are very attentive. I have a detective in contact with me every day. She came to my house, she told me how long the investigation would take ”.
And he believes Thiago may have been a deliberate target, but Gardai said they have no proof that this was the case.
POSSIBLE OBJECTIVE
Teresa said: “The feeling that we have as Brazilian immigrants is that it was definitely deliberate.
“There is a history of attacks against delivery men, most of them Brazilians.
“The avenue where it was demolished is very wide and at the time of the accident there was no traffic there.
“So it was impossible for them not to see it and to avoid it. For me, it was definitely deliberate. ”
However, gardai says the matter remains under investigation and that they are awaiting a technical examination of the ‘company car’ Ford Focus 05, bought for 200 euros to be driven to the ground, before drawing any conclusions.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the expenses of Heartbroken Teresa at the moment has raised nearly € 50,000 in donations in just 24 hours.
The collection was organized by Teresa and Thiago’s friend, Ana Moreira, who wrote: “We know that this campaign will not bring our Thiago back, no money will make us overcome his loss.
“But we know that everyone cares about him, his fiancée and his family, and all of you want to help in some way.”
“We want to show how important he was, how important his cause is and how united we are.”
