The brutal murder of Patrick ‘Pappy’ Lyons in North Dublin is the second tragedy to hit the father of the family in just one month.

The 44-year-old man was shot and killed in Ballymun on Thursday night. Heartbreakingly, his murder comes less than three weeks after the mother of Pappy’s only child passed away.

The popular father of one died shortly after 9 p.m. after being attacked five times in Belclare Terrace in what was the first firearm murder of the year.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and emergency services covered his remains with a blanket after they were unable to save him.

Pappy was known to Gardai in connection with some previous misdemeanor drug and robbery offenses, but his shooting has come as a total shock as he was not involved in serious criminal activity.

Gardai has now launched a murder investigation into the shooting which they believe is related to a local dispute.

It is the second death in the family in just under three weeks after the murdered father’s son lost his mother in late January.

The body of Patrick Lyons was removed from the scene Friday morning to the Dublin City Morgue, where an autopsy took place.

The Technical Office examined the scene and Gardai is asking anyone with information or who has been in the Belclare Terrace and Belclare Park areas between 8 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. on February 11 to come forward.

They are particularly attractive to those with camera footage of the area at the time of the incident, including dashcam footage and mobile phone, to be available to them.

Gardai also cautioned that they are aware of video footage and images circulating online and are urging people not to share them out of respect for the family.

A spokesperson said: “A man, in his 40s, received multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The scene is currently preserved and the Garda Technical Office will conduct a technical examination.”

He added: “Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Ballymun Garda station on 01 666 4400, the confidential Garda line on 1800 666 111 or at any Garda station.

“The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.”
