John Mountney is the latest Dundalk player to leave the club, and the Lilywhites confirmed that the May Man will not be staying next season.
Mountney spent nine seasons at Oriel Park, made nearly 300 appearances and walked away with five Premier Division titles, three FAI Cups and three League Cups. He was also part of two memorable European campaigns in which the Co Louth league reached the group stage of the Europa League.
Mountney’s last appearance was against Arsenal at Aviva Stadium.
Earlier Monday, Dundalk thanked several players who have left in recent weeks. Nathan Oduwa, Jimmy Corcoran, Sean Hoare and Sean Gannon are gone, while Gary Rogers has retired.
“We want to thank each and every one of them for the role they played in the success of the club since 2013 and we wish them the best in the future,” the club said in a statement.
It has been a period of significant change at Dundalk.
Two weeks ago, former Northern Ireland midfielder Jim Magilton was appointed their new sporting director, while the Lilywhites recently confirmed that Filippo Giovagnoli will remain the club’s head coach on a permanent basis.
The Italian led them to FAI Cup glory with a 4-2 loss to Shamrock Rovers after extra time.
