The eight best moments from this year’s Late Late Toy Show

[ad_1]

THE EVENING AFTERNOON Toy Show looked very different this year with a six-foot social distancing and virtual audience, but the much-loved show managed to touch the heartstrings of the nation.

The theme of this year’s show was based on the works of Roald Dahl, with a set adorned with nods to characters like Willy Wonka and Matilda.

Host Ryan Tubridy himself started out in a Fantastic Mr Fox costume (fur and all), and things only progressed from there.

These are some of the highlights of a Toy Show to remember.

1. Saoirse

There were two memorable young men named Saoirse on tonight’s show.

The first Saoirse of the night aspires to be a veterinarian, but could still have a role in the National Public Health Emergency Team given her great breadth of knowledge about Covid-19.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UCD already welcome preventively she to the ranks.

2. Also Saoirse

In the second Saoirse of the night, with Saoirse Ruane of Galway capturing the heart (and tears) of the country by telling her story about her amputated leg.

She showed off her fantastic prosthetic leg (which has a picture of a unicorn) and, as Ryan said: “How can a prosthetic leg be so beautiful?”

3. Jayme Traynor

One of the (many) kids on Tubridy’s no-nonsense tonight show.

Bucket hat on head, dinosaur costume on legs – this young man from Newry was definitely an audience favorite tonight.

4. Sam Mussels

Sam, another member of the sensible group, told Tubridy that he would turn his pheasant into slippers. This is not a joke.

The conversation progressed and in the end we got very impressive pheasant prints.

5. Garda Matthew

This young Garda was a strict enforcer of the rules, making sure Tubridy didn’t get within two meters of him at all costs.

We could all use to take a page from Garda Matthew’s book and move on to Level 3.

6. Gabrielle Dermody

8-year-old Gabrielle Dermody was a delight on tonight’s show, talking passionately about dolls that looked like her and teaching Tubridy some Tik Tok dance moves very “in love” with children. Very nice scenes.

7. Famous guests

From Gary Barlow, to Edge, to Dermot Kennedy. Some celebrity guests always poke their heads at the Late Late Toy Show, and this year was no exception (although it pretty much appeared in most cases).

The duet between singer Dermot Kennedy and Ballina’s Michael Moloney was a beautiful moment, as was Gary Barlow singing alongside children from around the world.

8. Adam King

Adam’s adorable smile and enthusiastic greeting will linger with tonight’s audience for a long time, that’s for sure.

His night was made when the hospital porter John Doyle arrived on set, and it also served for the rest of our nights.
