A local GAA community was stunned by the sudden death of a young popular mother.
Karen Cahill, 28, died unexpectedly at Galway Hospital on Wednesday.
Karen was known in the Killybegs area, and her father, Ed Byrne, serves as the Assistant Secretary of Donegal GAA.
Donegal GAA wrote on Facebook: “CLG Dhún na nGall is very sad to inform you of the sudden death of Karen Cahill, the beloved daughter of Emer Cahill and Ed Byrne, our Under Secretary.
“Karen was only 28 years old and our thoughts and prayers are with her partner Eoin, her son Matthew and with Emer and Ed and their children Shane, Darragh and Grace at this terribly sad moment.
“Ar Dheis Dé ve raibh a anam uasail”.

The 28-year-old was a local from Killybegs but had moved to Tuam, Co Galway.
A post on RIP.ie says: “Karen was known to her family as Wabby, Karen grew up in Killybegs among a loving family.
“He moved to Galway nine years ago, after having lived in Tuam for the past four years. In Galway he met Eoin, where they have been together for almost five years and where Matthew was born in 2017, which gave him so much joy.”
“Karen passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at UCH, Galway. Karen lovingly regrets her partner Eoin and her son Matthew.

“We will miss her very much for her mother Emer and her husband Ed, the Shane brothers, Dara and her sister Grace, her father Stuart and his wife Fiona and brother Fionn, grandparents Brian and Emer, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandmothers and great uncles and families of Cahill, Conway, Burns, Travers and Byrnes and their many friends.
“And now you are a guardian angel in heaven.”
Karen’s family has confirmed that she will be buried in a private ceremony in Killybegs on Saturday.
The publication added: “According to the Government and HSE Guidelines, the wake and funeral are private.
“Karen remains resting at her mother Emer’s residence on Friday from 12 noon to 8 at night. Funeral from there on Saturday morning at 10:30 am Requiem Mass only for immediate family, please, with burial then in the cemetery. Funeral Mass can be seen at 11 am on the St. Mary’s Church webcam www.killybegsparish.com.
“Family flowers alone, please donate instead of, if you wish, Karen’s choice of charity ‘Eagles Flying, Wildlife Sanctuary, Ballymote.'”
