Det Garda Caitriona Molloy gave evidence of having arrested and charged the 24-year-old, who did not respond when brought up on the charges.

He objected to the defendant’s bail and claimed there was strong CCTV evidence against Nolan, who was allegedly caught on camera pouring accelerant and lighting a fire in the room.

She told Judge Olann Kelleher that “the nature of the evidence is very strong” and that there are “crystal clear” CCTV images of the room.

This allegedly shows Nolan filling a can of gasoline at the Ballyhooley Road service station six minutes before the incident in the lounge.

‘COMPLETELY UNPRODUCED ATTACK’

The room caught fire at 2.40 am. He said Gardai was opposed to bail due to the seriousness of the charges.

It stated that the crimes Nolan is charged with were indictable with lengthy prison terms at the time of conviction.

Det Garda Molloy said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on the business that had caused extensive damage and a huge loss of profits for the salon.

“It is a very serious charge. It will take a while for the business to start up. Thirteen people are out of work. “

Bail declined

Frank Buttimer, an attorney, said his client, of Morne Avenue, Glen, Cork, resided with his mother.

Garda Molloy said that she would not be satisfied that he lived at this address. Buttimer said her client vehemently denied any responsibility for the attack on the salon.

He said Nolan also denied being the person filmed on CCTV.

He said there was no forensic evidence linking his client to the incident.

He said his client was prepared to do whatever was required, like sign and comply with the curfew.

However, Garda Molloy said that gardai had submitted articles to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Dublin for analysis and was awaiting the results.

Judge Kelleher said it was a “felony.”

He refused to grant bail in the case and placed Nolan in custody until his next court appearance on October 13.
