An Garda Síochana is conducting a criminal investigation into the tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths of three men in a shooting in a small rural area in North Cork.
The remains of Tadgh O’Sullivan, 59, and his two sons, Diarmuid and Mark, both 20, were discovered today at two locations on the family farm in Assolas.
Gardaí held a press conference tonight in which they described the incident.
Garda negotiators attempted to contact people who may have been in the home all morning, and shortly after 1 p.m., members of the emergency response unit approached the home.
The body of a man in his twenties with a gunshot wound was discovered in a bedroom.
The Garda support unit helicopter began an air check of the adjoining land and at approximately 1.40pm two more bodies were discovered, a man in his fifties and a man in his twenties.
Superintendent Adrian Gamble said several firearms were seized at the scene and will be subject to further technical examination.
He added that preliminary evidence shows that both men found in the field suffered gunshot wounds.

“An Garda Síochana has appointed a family liaison officer and the family has requested strict privacy.
“We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to witnesses to come forward and contact the Mallow Garda station, the Garda National Confidential Line, or any other Garda station,” concluded Superintendent Adrian Gamble.

One of the sons was found in a bedroom of the family home in Assolas, near Kanturk, while the father and the other son were found in a field near the house.
Gardai is investigating whether the incident is related to an inheritance dispute.
A pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau will be present at the scene tonight, as a woman who raised the alarm at 6.30 this morning is being comforted.
She is the wife of the older man and the mother of the two brothers, both in their 20s.
The woman, who is in her 60s, went to a neighbor’s house to seek help after the shooting was done at the house and Gardaí was alerted.
