“We were taking the bus back when this lady started being racist with us on the top deck of the bus.

“First of all, she said she ‘didn’t want any viruses’ from some of my friends and she was yelling and getting really abusive.

“She wouldn’t get off and she was getting more and more abusive, everyone on the bus was in disbelief, the driver stopped the bus and told her she would have to get off.

“I was also incredulous, this is the first time something like this has happened to me, my friend’s birthday was ruined, she was crying.

“The abuse lasted about 10 minutes, she called us the N word several times, told us to ‘go back to Africa’ and said we should get off the bus since she was there first.”

The young woman said that she has been studying in Dublin since January 2019 but has never experienced racism before.

She added: “It’s so sad that we have to go through this, where I’m from, I would never see anyone else below me, they’re all the same.

“Why would someone treat me like I’m not a human like everyone else? It really surprised me.”

The young woman said the woman eventually got off the bus and that other passengers tried to intervene calling her “disgrace.”

He also praised the Dublin bus driver who confronted the woman and said he would report the incident.
