Scared residents in a quiet Dublin town have warned parents to “protect our young people” after a girl narrowly escaped an alleged kidnapping attempt.
The terrified girl was cycling in the low-key border town of Garristown, north of Dublin-Meath, when she was abducted by a suspected kidnapper.
He managed to break free and flee, but concerned locals fear that “confidence has gone out the window” in the area.
The Garristown Community Council, a popular local Facebook group, posted about the disturbing incident, urging residents to “take care of each other and get to know your neighbor.”
The post read: “On Monday they grabbed a girl riding a bicycle with her bicycle, and with the intention of abducting her. Fortunately, she managed to free herself, but, as you can imagine, she and her family are very upset!
“Please keep an eye out for anyone you distrust and protect our youth in our parish and surrounding areas. This cannot happen and make your youth realize (without scaring them off) that on their own, unfortunately, they cannot It is safe.
“They need to take care of each other and we as a small community need to know who we are as well.
“Confidence has gone out the window!
“Take care of each other and get to know your neighbor. Talk to your children, young and old.”
