A teenager was arrested in connection with the gruesome hit and run murder of Deliveroo driver Thiago Cortes.
Thiago, 28, tragically died from injuries sustained after being knocked down while riding his bike on North Wall Quay in August.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Today, Friday 6 November 2020, Gardaí arrested a man (of a teenager) in connection with a fatal traffic collision that occurred in the North Wall Quay area of Dublin City on August 31, 2020.
“He is currently being held at Store Street Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
The Deliveroo worker had come to Ireland to study for a master’s degree and save money for his wedding to his partner Theresa Dontas.
His devastated fiancee had previously said that Thiago convinced her to move to Ireland from Brazil with him to seek a life with more opportunities.
She told Today with Claire Byrne: “We have been together for over six years. He was the one who wanted to come to Ireland first. He convinced me to come here and I did and I have no regrets at all.
“He was not very happy in Brazil and he thought he could have better chances.
“I wanted to come here to have a better life. And we were getting it, we had a great life here.”
A distraught Theresa also told how she stayed with Thiago in the Intensive Care Unit where he was being treated until his last moments.
She said: “I was able to see it when I was in the ER and later when I was in the ICU.
“I spent all of Tuesday there and also the night until its last moment.”
