A teenager died last night in a hit-and-run terror in Co Louth.
The shocking incident occurred when two cars collided in Ballymascanlon, Dundalk around 9pm.
A man in his late teens, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, died at the scene, with the driver of the same car fleeing on foot.
The body of the deceased remains at the scene.
The driver of the second car, a man in his 40s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, with minor injuries.
The man who fled the scene on foot has since reported to Gardai and is assisting in the investigation.
Garda’s forensic collision investigators have been notified and should begin their investigations shortly.
The road remains closed at this time, with local detours in place.
A spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Dundalk are asking that anyone with information regarding this collision come forward.
“Gardaí is also attractive to road users who may have camera images (including dash cam) traveling in the Ballymascanlon area from 8 pm to 9 pm for Gardaí to have access to these images.
“Anyone with information should contact the Dundalk Garda station on 042 9388400, the confidential Garda line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
