Taoiseach Micheál Martin wore a special Adam King ‘Hug for You’ badge on his suit during his St. Patrick’s Day meeting with US President Joe Biden today.

Martin met with the president practically due to the Covid-19 pandemic and they discussed a number of issues, including the Good Friday Agreement Y Vaccines for COVID-19.

The Taoiseach tweeted: “Very glad to share a #adamsvirtualhug of an extraordinary boy on a very special day. “

Adam King, a six-year-old from Cork with brittle bones, rose to fame on RTÉ’s Late Late Toy Show in November when he showed a paper heart with “A hug for you” written on it.

The ears were later turned into cards, sold in SuperValu stores and with a special An Post postmark.

Mr. Martin wrote a letter to the King after his appearance on the Late Late Toy Show.

“In my speech to the country on Friday night, I thanked the children of Ireland for their strength and for the way they have all dealt with Covid,” he wrote.

“When I said it, I couldn’t have believed that, just hours later, the country would see such a perfect example of that force on the Late Late Toy Show.

“Your virtual hug and your obvious kindness made the point better than ever.”
