Taoiseach welcomes 120 new jobs to Cork as Douglas Shopping Center is ready to reopen

Some 120 new jobs have been announced for Cork this Christmas in conjunction with Tesco’s reopening in the Douglas Mall.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin joined Tesco workers in Douglas to welcome the announcement of the jobs for Cork.

The Douglas Mall itself, along with Tesco, is due to reopen on November 12 after a year-long closure of the mall following a devastating fire.

The jobs are part of 1,150 positions advertised by Tesco in Ireland.

Of these roles, 450 are full-time permanent roles available across the country and 120 of them in Cork. 700 temporary roles are being created to help with a safe and easy shopping trip during the Christmas business period.

Martin said: “These additional jobs will further enhance the customer shopping experience as well as provide a boost to employment in Cork and across the country.”

Kari Daniels, CEO of Tesco Ireland, said the company was delighted to be able to create these new opportunities.
