Taoiseach Micheál Martin appeared to ignore Donald Trump’s outbursts by stating that the US elections are “rigged.”

When asked about Trump’s comments that the US election is ‘rigged’ and ‘fraud’, Martin said: “I think in the heat of battle people say things.

But when you look at the Republican Party, it did pretty well in some states where there have been accusations in relation to the presidential election and the Senate, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

“I watched and, to be fair, despite the county-by-county pressure, officials seemed to have worked very, very hard to ensure the integrity of the people in the elections.”

Speaking to RTE News, Mr. Martin said Joe Biden “is as Irish as can be” after meeting him while he was Foreign Minister.

He said: “He is as Irish as he can get in terms of his experience and he is very proud of that.

“And I think from the Irish perspective, the relationship with the United States is key.

“That connection between us is one that we would like to see nurtured in terms of who is victorious in this election.

“Looks good for Joe Biden.”

Currently, Joe Biden is moving closer and closer to the presidency after taking key major states on the battlefield in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

An optimistic Donald Trump has repeated unsubstantiated claims that the election has been rigged in Biden’s favor as he continues to threaten a litany of lawsuits regarding the vote count.

There has yet to be a victory declaration from Biden, however he will address the people of America tonight.

And while Biden’s chances look increasingly promising, there may not be a clear answer tonight.

Just hours ago, officials confirmed that a recount will likely take place in the state of Georgia with Biden set to secure a narrow winner.
