Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said that “wet pubs” will receive guidelines on how to reopen “shortly”.

Martin also spoke with innkeepers from Co Monaghan who traveled to Dublin in an attempt to find out when they can reopen their pubs.

One bartender, Noel McNally, said he is “broke” and has had to borrow money from his family to stay afloat.

But he said the Taosieach didn’t give them any definitive indication of a date when they could go back into business.

Martin confirmed to the Irish Mirror that innkeepers will receive this guide “shortly”.

He said the framework will include “conditions” and said this would be included in the new plan to live with Covid-19 due out “in mid-September.”

He said: “As a government, we want to open up other sectors of the economy that remain closed, including pubs.

“And at the moment they are working on the orientation … in relation to the conditions that would apply in the event of the reopening of pubs, so they are working on the orientation and it will be broadcast.

“But, as always, we will be guided by public health councils.

“The orientation will include conditions … to protect lives and people’s health.”
