The Irish Coast Guard has issued a warning to swimmers after several people found themselves in difficulty due to treacherous water conditions this morning.

Several ambulances and the Rescue 116 helicopter went into action when two swimmers ran into difficulties at Forty Foot in Dun Laoghaire.

Gardai also attended the site to warn people about dangerous swimming conditions caused by spring high tides.

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: “The Coast Guard carried out an operation to rescue two swimmers who had found it difficult to swim at Forty Foot today.

“A Garda Patrol attended the area to warn swimmers of the potential dangers due to unfavorable swimming conditions.”

Fortunately, the two swimmers were unharmed after their rescue.

A short time later, the Coast Guard helicopter sprang into action again after a swimmer found himself in deep water at Low Rock, off the coast of Malahide.

Fortunately, the swimmer was able to return to shallow water without the need for rescuers to intervene.

The Coast Guard took to social media to warn swimmers about high tides this weekend.

They said, “Forty feet and our shoreline today, strong winds and spring high tides are making it very difficult for swimmers, and high tides are especially bad.”

High tides will strike again tonight from 8:30 pm to 12:45 am on Sunday morning and again from 9:15 pm on Sunday to 1:30 am on Monday morning.
