THE SUPREME COURT has confirmed that it has received Judge Susan Denham’s report on Supreme Court Justice Seamus Woulfe’s attendance at the controversial Oireachtas Golf Society event in Galway last month.

In a statement after the event, which was attended by 81 people, the judge apologized “without reservation” and said he had the impression that the organizers had ensured that the dinner was in compliance with the rules.

Woulfe was Attorney General when regulations were drafted and introduced limiting the number of indoor events organized to 50.

He said that any breaches of the regulations were unintentional and regrets attending the dinner.

Last month, the Supreme Court asked former Chief Justice Denham to “consider certain questions” that arise from Woulfe’s attendance at the golfgate event. He was asked to consider whether the Supreme Court justice should have accepted the invitation to the dinner.

Judge Denham also looked at other aspects, including whether he should have attended the event without attending dinner and whether there are relevant codes of practice or related guidelines.

The Supreme Court said it is considering the content of the report and has made a copy of the report available to Justice Woulfe.
