Met Éireann has issued three separate yellow status warnings for wind and rain.
All three go into effect Sunday with the west coast particularly hard hit.
A yellow state wind warning for Donegal, Mayo and Sligo is in place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, while the same level warning is in place for Galway, Clare, and Kerry from noon to 10 p.m. .
Met Éireann said the northwest winds “strengthened Sunday with average wind speeds of 50 to 65 km / h and gusts of 90 to 100 km / h.”
There is also a yellow rain status warning for Kildare, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
That warning is in effect from 7 a.m. M. From Sunday until 11 p.m. M.
Met Éireann warned of “heavy and persistent rains on Sunday with expected totals of 25-40mm, higher totals in mountainous areas.
“This can result in flooding of some rivers as well as flooding of the surface.”
Meanwhile, Saturday will be dry in most areas with periods of sunshine.
However, Met Éireann has warned that “scattered rains will occur, mainly in the coastal areas of the Atlantic and in the north, which will become intense later in the west of Munster and the west of Connacht”.
They added that “a period of persistent rain will develop in the northeast in the afternoon or early evening.”
Tonight it will be wet “in much of Ulster and the east,” but mostly dry elsewhere.
Met Éireann predicts a rainy day on Sunday.
They said: “The rain will spread westward to all areas, persistent and strong in some places, especially in the northwest, where there is a risk of localized flooding.
“The rain will be erratic in the southwest and will become more intermittent in the eastern and northeast coastal areas, with some periods of drought.”
The forecaster said the outlook for the week is that it will be “cold and unstable.”
