Suitcase full of € 600,000 worth of cannabis seized in series of drug raids in Dublin and Wicklow

Around three-quarters of a million euros in suspicious drugs and dirty money are in good hands after a series of raids in the greater Dublin area.

Drug cops slammed into a car in Rathnew, Co Wicklow yesterday and an engine search uncovered a suitcase full of 600,000 euros of marijuana.

And a series of follow-up searches in Dublin led to the seizure of around € 130,000 in cash.

Six people are being questioned about the huge loot that followed the Garda-led intelligence operation.

The searches were part of a Pearse Street station police operation in the sale and supply of illicit drugs.

A Garda statement reads: “Gardaí has ​​seized Cannabis Herb with an estimated value of € 600,000 and € 130,000 in cash following several searches in the Dublin and Wicklow area, yesterday 24 September 2020.

“The searches were part of a Gardaí-led intelligence operation attached to the Pearse Street station on the sale and supply of illicit drugs.

“Shortly before 3pm on September 24, 2020, a car was intercepted in Rathnew, County Wicklow.

“A search of the car led Gardaí to the discovery of a suitcase containing Cannabis Herb worth € 600,000 (pending analysis).

The driver of this car, a 42-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Garda station on Pearse Street, where he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act of 1996.

“After this interception, a car was later stopped on Walkinstown Road in Co Dublin.

Gardaí confiscated 85,000 euros in cash after a search of the vehicle. Subsequently, a 46-year-old man was arrested and transferred to the Garda station on Pearse Street.

“He was also detained under article 2 of the Criminal Justice Law.

“A final follow-up search of a Dublin residence led to the seizure of small amounts of suspected cannabis herb along with € 45,000 in cash.

“The occupants of this residence, a woman and three men, were arrested at the scene. The four individuals were taken to the Pearse Street and Kevin Street stations.”

Gardai said investigations into the huge triple bust are ongoing.
