The Taoiseach and Cabinet members have participated in a virtual meeting of the North South Ministerial Conference with their counterparts in the Stormont power-sharing administration.

It was the 25th commitment of one of the structures established by the Good Friday Agreement and will be the final meeting before the end of the Brexit transition period.

It is the turn of the Executive of Northern Ireland to host this meeting.

However, Northern Ireland Prime Minister Arlene Foster and Deputy Prime Minister Michelle O’Neill welcomed Micheál Martin and his colleagues to a virtual meeting.

The two administrations are concerned about the Covid-19 challenge.

The intermittent element of the Northern Ireland protocol of the Brexit negotiations has been resolved.

The watershed moment for the broader trade negotiations may finally have come, with huge implications for the island of Ireland.

The government of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is promising Northern Ireland up to £ 500 million over a six-year period for the EU Peace Funds it will lose.

The government has set aside € 500 million for infrastructure projects as part of its shared island initiative.
