Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny faces an investigation after showing “anti-English” video to his players ahead of his team’s defeat at Wembley.
The Irish Football Association has said it is investigating the content of the “motivational” film shared by Kenny ahead of last week’s friendly, in which Gareth Southgate’s England team won 3-0.
The pre-match video, which reportedly included political content, is said to have left several members of the Irish team feeling uncomfortable.
The latest development is meant to increase the pressure on Kenny after a lackluster start to his time in charge.
He is still looking for his first win after eight games at the helm, including a penalty shootout loss to Slovakia that wiped out hopes of qualifying for the delayed final of Euro 2020.
His team has managed to score just once in 2020, during a 1-1 draw with Bulgaria in September.
The FAI said in a statement: “The Irish Football Association is aware of issues related to content shared with our Republic of Ireland senior men’s team ahead of the recent international friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.
“The FAI is already investigating this internally as a matter of urgency, to establish the facts.
“The FAI has no further comment to make at this time.”
