The average number of new Covid-19 cases has risen steadily over the past five days, according to figures released by the Center for Health Protection Surveillance.
Yesterday, the Health Department was notified of 16 more deaths related to the coronavirus and 543 new cases.
That marked the fifth day in a row the five-day moving average, which tracks the disease’s progress while smoothing out daily and weekend fluctuations, had risen.
The figures also showed that 73% of the new cases corresponded to people under 45 years of age and the average age of those newly diagnosed was 29.
The number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 in Ireland has risen to 349, nine more than yesterday morning.
There were 17 new admissions to the hospital during the past 24 hours (8 AM to 8 AM). Nine patients were discharged during the same period.
Last Thursday, the president of the Epidemiological Advisory Group of the National Public Health Emergency Team said that while there is “constant progress” in all indicators of the disease, there are some reasons for concern.
Professor Philip Nolan said that Ireland is at a “sore point” regarding new cases of Covid-19, and that now is not the time for people to relax public health measures.
Meanwhile, a teenage transplant patient who received a request for vaccination but was later unable to receive it because the vaccine in question, Astra Zeneca, was not licensed for children under 18, will now receive the appropriate vaccine on Tuesday.
The Irish Kidney Association has asked programming teams to check their lists for age details before inviting people on dates.
