The organizers of the St Patrick’s Festival have confirmed that there will be no street parades in Dublin this year.

Instead, the virtual events will be held on a special online television channel ‘SPF TV’.

The parade was also canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the festival committee said that although there will be no gathering in the streets, they will “reinvent” it with “marching bands, pageantry and ceremony” during the festival, which will run from March 12-17.

“A rich and dynamic program of festival events, created by hundreds of artists, musicians, performers, filmmakers, creators, arts and live event workers and community organizations across Ireland, will be broadcast on the St Patrick’s Festival online channel TV for six days and nights, “according to a statement from Aileen Galvin, director of marketing and communications.

The celebrations will be broadcast worldwide to a potential audience of 80 million.

The Dublin festival and parade generally attracts more than 110.00 visitors over four days with the participation of 3,000 artists and artists and generates 70 million euros for the capital.

It typically costs € 2 million with Fáilte Ireland providing half the funding with the rest coming from Dublin City Council and the Department of Tourism.

It is not yet clear how much funding will be available this year, but organizers of other festivals in 2021 have been told that they will get 25% of their usual allocation.

RTÉ will be the partner for the virtual parade with more details about it to be announced later.
