Stephen Kenny held his first training session as the Republic of Ireland coach in Abbotstown this morning as the team prepares to play Bulgaria in the Nations League on Thursday.
Sean Maguire comes in to replace the injured Troy Parrott.
Millwall boss Gary Rowett is hopeful Parrott’s quadriceps injury is just “a slight strain” that won’t keep the attacker out for more than two to three weeks.
James McCarthy was fully involved in training and appears to be available for selection for the first time in four years.
Goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara was absent from the session as a precaution, and Mark Travers will be arriving later today.
Meanwhile, the athletic trio of St Patrick, Conor Kearns, Shane Griffin and Lee Desmond, have been called up to the team.
Desmond and Griffin are regulars on the Saints’ first team, while Kearns is the number two goalkeeper behind Brendan Clarke.
The entire panel obtained a special waiver from the government to avoid the Covid-19 quarantine upon arriving in Dublin from England. The same waiver will apply when the team returns from Sophia, as Bulgaria is not on the ‘green list’.
Players and coaching staff will be tested today and again on Friday and are currently in a restricted bubble.
