Solskjaer: Pogba is taking steps for Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Manchester United performed “really well” after going back early against Fulham.

Fulham got off to a perfect start against Man United. Andre-Frank Anguissa released Ademola Lookman with a precise pass. Lookman took his time before shooting into the bottom corner to put his side first.

However, Solskjaer’s team responded well behind. Bruno Fernandes hit the post from the edge of the box in the 20th minute.

Fernandes fired another effort at Alpononse Areola moments later. The opening shot was saved, but Edinson Cavani was quick to do so and hit home from close range to make it 1-1.

The Red Devils finished the part strong when Fernandes forced Areola to make another great save as the goalkeeper prevented his effort from finding the top corner.

United continued to pressure Fulham in the second half. Paul Pogba scored the all-important second goal in spectacular fashion.

The Frenchman hit him purely with his weaker left foot from the edge of the area. The ball flew into the far corner to complete Man United’s comeback.

The visitors had to endure some late pressure, but they held on to all three points. This result returns them to the top of the league. United are two points ahead of Man City and Leicester City.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match, quoted by BBC Sport, Solsjkaer said his side showed a “good reaction” by falling behind:

“I think we started slowly, but after his goal, I felt like we played well. We needed to wake up and after that we played really well.

“We really don’t go offside, we should continue the race. But we had not woken up but with a good reaction.

“Fantastic goal by Paul and we had other opportunities to finish the game, but of course, when it is only one goal and the players who put it, it will be like the heart in the mouth.

“[Pogba] has really arrived. He’s in shape, he can play midfield and he can play wide. That’s key with Paul, getting him fit and running fit and he is right now. He played very well ”.

“[Winning the title] It will always be talked about when you’re midway through and at the top of the league, but we’re not thinking about that, we only have to go one game at a time. It’s such an unpredictable season. “
