Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested that a “sloppy” defense was Manchester United’s fall to Sheffield United.
Man United got off to a slow start to play and were punished by their opponents. The Blades created a few starts early on before taking the lead in the 23rd minute.
John Fleck sent a superb corner to the near post. David De Gea came out to claim it, but Kean Bryan found him first to head home for his first Premier League goal.

Solskjaer’s team continued to fight early in the second half as they failed to hit the attack areas.
But Man United tied in the 63rd minute. This came from a corner and Alex Telles center was brilliantly received by Harry Maguire against his former club.
The hosts would have expected to take all three points from here, but they didn’t. With just over 15 minutes to go, Sheff United put the ball into the penalty area.
Some suspect the Manchester United defense kept the play alive before the ball landed on Oliver Burke a second time. The Scot’s deflected shot missed De Gea and bounced off the crossbar into the net.
Chris Wilder’s side held on for a famous victory at Old Trafford. This result leaves Man United one point behind Man City, but Pep Guardiola’s side have one more game than their rivals.
Speaking to BT Sport after the match, quoted by BBC Sport, Solskjaer said his team didn’t create “enough chances” against Sheffield United:
“We had all possession, but when you concede two bad goals it’s always going to be difficult. We don’t create big enough opportunities to score enough goals.
“That magic was missing, that little extra. They defended well, they played fair but we didn’t have the right ideas or solutions. The first goal is a foul, Billy Sharp collides with David de Gea. At the other extreme, there is no foul for the goal disallowed for us, but it is that kind of season. Two errors by the referee.
“It wasn’t like that, the second goal we conceded is so poor, so careless. Easy. We stop going to the ball, three or four bad decisions that is out of place.
“There won’t be a big investigation. There have been so many strange results this season, but with the world as it is, we have been the most consistent team, it hit us today. “
