Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reserved special praise for Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw after Manchester United’s derby win over Man City.

Ederon reached for a Bruno Fernandes penalty, but couldn’t keep the ball from landing in the bottom corner.

Man City finished the half well, but held on 1-0 until United doubled their lead in the 50th minute.

The attack was started by Luke Shaw as he advanced up the field. He unloaded it to Marcus Rashford before the forward let him into the area. The left back leveled off before finding the bottom corner past a static Ederson in goal.

Pep Guardiola’s men missed chances to return to the game, but finished 2-0 for the visitors. This victory ends a streak of three consecutive 0-0 draws for the Red Devils. Now they are second in the table and are eleven points behind City.

Solskjaer said BBC Sport that Martial was his man of the match at the Etihad:

“Happy. I’d say you get the first goal, we were in the lead for 10-15 minutes, but then the last half hour of the first half I felt like we played too much in the result. Sometimes when you defend against strong teams, they inevitably believe Opportunities We had to arrive in the middle of the time to get back in touch with everyone.

“The second goal was magnificent. Luke [Shaw] just show what it’s about. It was a big question this morning and he had to go through a physical condition test to play. What a performance.

“I thought we defended very well, we were more like ourselves with the ball in attack.

“Anthony Martial was the man of the match and had an even bigger doubt than Luke. That was the Anthony we know, very positive and facing the players. Enchanted by him.

“They [Manchester City] We’re so far ahead that you can’t think of anything other than making sure we win our games and are better than last year. We were third, so we want to move up the table, of course. “
