All weekly welfare payments, which had been moved to a biweekly schedule since the end of March, will be fully reset to be paid weekly starting Monday, November 2.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, weekly social welfare payments were switched to a biweekly schedule starting March 23.

This measure was kept under review and in August, the Department of Labor Affairs and Social Protection moved a series of payments to a weekly payment schedule.

These included the single-parent family pay, the working family pay, the sickness benefit, the job search allowance and the job search benefit.

The Minister of Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, has now confirmed that these payments will return to a weekly schedule.

Individuals who receive the remaining payments, such as contributory and non-contributory pensions, widow’s pensions, caregiver allowance and caregiver benefits, will receive their last double weekly payment in the week beginning Monday, October 19 and will receive their payment again each week from the week beginning November 2.

These customers will continue to have the option of collecting their welfare payment at their post office each week or at any time for up to 90 days.

Ms. Humphreys said: “I would like to assure these customers who will be returning to the weekly payment schedule beginning in early November that they will still have the option to collect their payment from their post office for up to 90 days. Some customers prefer to manage your finances weekly instead of biweekly and I appreciate it fully There may be others who prefer to collect their welfare payment every fortnight and I want to give them that option.

“After recent discussions with representatives from the Irish Postmasters Union and Debbie Byrne from An Post Retail, I am very pleased to arrange to make the post office welfare payments program available to customers on a weekly basis. In addition to giving them options, this action will support local businesses, our post offices and local communities. “
