Sligo has confirmed the appointment of Tony McEntee as the county’s next senior soccer manager.

The former Armagh All-Ireland winner was given a three-year term in office as he replaces Paul Taylor, who left office earlier this month after two years in charge citing “family commitments, work commitments and the current health crisis “as the main factors behind his decision.

McEntee’s backroom team will consist of assistant manager Joe Keane, as well as strength and conditioning coach Sean Boyle, while another coach will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The Armagh man has a strong managerial pedigree, having jointly managed his native club, Crossmaglen Rangers, to back-to-back Irish titles in 2011 and 2012.

At the inter-county level, he was part of Stephen Rochford’s backroom team in May between 2016 and 2018, helping them reach successive decision makers across Ireland in ’16 and ’17.

Sligo GAA has also confirmed that Dessie Sloyan has remained under-20 manager for 2021.

The Sligo seniors saw their 2020 Connacht Championship restricted when they withdrew from the semi-final against Galway due to positive Covid-19 cases within their camp.

The Allianz Football League campaign had seen Yeats County finish fourth in Division 4.
