Sligo GAA has a significant number of positive Covid-19 cases on its soccer panel and is expecting more results in more players, putting its Connacht Championship semi-final with Galway in doubt this weekend.
Sligo tested multiple players in the last 24 hours and the results were positive on multiple players, with more tested today and are now awaiting those results.
The county board will issue a statement Tuesday morning confirming that they are following HSE protocols and guidelines and are in dialogue with Croke Park officials and the Connacht Council.
Contact tracing is also underway.
Sligo will play the Tribesmen on Saturday at Pearse Stadium.
Earlier today, GAA President John Horan reiterated the stance that Covid-related postponements would only be considered in the later stages of the championship.
He told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland: “We have contingency plans if we run into a problem in the semi-finals or the final in Ireland.”
“It would not be our decision around the availability of a player or team. We would be guided by the public health authorities, whose opinion we have to continually take and respect.”
More positive tests would leave the Sligo panel hugely stretched and struggling to line up one side.
The Connacht final is scheduled for November 15, but with provincial decision-makers in the other three provinces all set to make a decision the following weekend, there is little room for maneuver.
