Shamrock Rovers has asked fans not to gather around Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday as they prepare to lift the SSE Airtricity League trophy.
The Hoops play their last home game of the season against St Patrick’s Athletic, with Roberto Lopes and his teammates ready to receive their medals and the trophy after the game.
The game will be broadcast on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player and will be played behind closed doors.
A small number of fans gathered during the Europa League first round victory over Ilves.
In a statement, the club asked fans not to travel to Tallaght and to respect the Covid-19 guidelines.
The Hoops said: “After discussions with An Garda Síochána, the club asks that all supporters follow the health and safety advice while remaining at level 5 and refrain from gathering around the stadium in the presentation of the league trophy. on Wednesday.
“The club understands what this means for the fans, everyone wishes that the fans could attend the games and celebrate the victory, but it is simply not possible at the moment.
“In addition, the season will not end on Wednesday, we have more League and Cup games left and the squad will continue to focus on the goals that lie ahead.”
Hoops’ statement concluded by saying “we will party when it is safe to do so.”
Stephen Bradley’s team is undefeated in 16 games so far this season and could win the title with as many as 16 points by Sunday’s conclusion.
They are still competing for a double with the FAI Cup quarterfinals with Finn Harps to come.
“The players have had to be patient,” Bradley said before tomorrow’s game. “We won the league a few weeks ago so they have had to be patient, but it will be a great occasion for them to get their hands on the trophy.
“It’s what we’ve been working for all year, so I’m delighted that they will lift that trophy tomorrow night.
“I expect a really difficult game. I saw them against Dundalk and they were very good. I think they can consider themselves unlucky for not winning the game, they had enough opportunities. But if we can reach our levels, we feel like going and scoring points in any game.”
St Patrick’s Athletic manager Stephen O’Donnell said: “We are looking forward to Wednesday’s game at Tallaght.
“It’s a quick change from Sunday’s draw against Dundalk, so we’ve been doing mostly recovery and a bit of analysis on the Rovers in the time we have.
“It is a Dublin derby and our fans would love to be there so the players and staff are looking forward to it and will go out to find a result for the fans.
