Multiple stabbings have occurred in Birmingham, England, local police confirmed.

West Midlands police said they were called in for reports of a stabbing around 12:30 a.m. this morning.

Several other stabbings were reported in the area around the same time. A “serious incident” has been declared.

Police said in a statement: “We are aware of several people injured, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious they are.”

“However, all emergency services are working together on the scene and making sure that the injured receive medical attention.

“Work is still being done to establish what happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything.”

“At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.”

The police statement continued: “Emergency services have well-rehearsed plans to deal with major incidents. Our response is ongoing in Birmingham city center and will be for some time.”

The West Midlands Police Twitter account also said they were “aware” of some comments that shots had been fired, but had not been informed.

One witness, Cara, told BBC Radio Five Live that she thought it was “a group of children against another group of children.”

He said he had heard racial slurs during the incident, adding that it was a “multicultural night” at the clubs near the Arcadia compound.

She added: “They weren’t just arguing and then fighting, it went straight to the fists.

“Drinks were falling, bottles that they had obviously bought at the club, rings were falling and jewels were going everywhere, clothes were ripping.

“One of the males ended up with his hair being pulled out and left bald.”

Meanwhile, five men were injured, one seriously, after a “stabbing attack” in south-east London last night.

Officers were called in to report a stabbing at The Broadway, Bexleyheath, around 9:30 p.m.

One of the injured has life-threatening injuries, the Metropolitan Police said.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious bodily injury.
