A deputy from Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish National Party (SNP) was suspended after traveling home by train from London to Scotland despite receiving a positive test result for Covid-19.
Margaret Ferrier was told that her test came back positive on Monday after she spoke at the British Parliament in Westminster.
“On Monday night I received a positive test result for Covid-19. I traveled home by train on Tuesday morning without asking for advice. This was … wrong and sorry,” he said in a statement.
Ferrier had run a Covid-19 test on Saturday.
He then traveled to London by train on Monday morning, although he had not yet received the result.
SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford said on Twitter that he was suspending her.
Sturgeon said: “This is absolutely indefensible.
“It’s hard to express how angry I feel at people across the country who make great sacrifices every day to help defeat Covid.
“The rules apply to everyone and are in place to keep people safe. [Ian Blackford] He’s right to suspend the whip. “

It is mandatory in England for people to self-isolate if they test positive for the coronavirus, with fines of £ 1,000 for those who break the rules.
A union of train conductors has said that Ms Ferrier’s train journey after a positive test for Covid-19 was “dangerous and embarrassing”.
Aslef’s union tweeted: “Rail personnel have worked during this pandemic to make sure the network can serve the public.
“We have worked day after day to keep our railway as safe as possible for passengers and staff.
“For a deputy getting on a train knowing that he has Covid-19 is dangerous and shameful.”
A Scottish Police spokeswoman confirmed that they were aware of reports that Ms Ferrier had traveled after testing positive for Covid-19.
She said: “We are aware of the circumstances and we are in contact with our colleagues in the Metropolitan Police Service.”
