Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah reveals he was “very disappointed” that Jurgen Klopp decided to pass him up for the captaincy in a recent match.

The Egyptian has scored 108 goals in 172 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool since joining the club from Roma in 2017.

Salah has 11 in 12 Premier League appearances this season, including opening hit as The Reds beat Tottenham 2-1 on Wednesday to reach the top of the Premier League.

His form in his four seasons at Liverpool has seen him linked to Barcelona and Real Madrid But Salah says he is focused on winning another Anfield title.

Salah told the Spanish publication AS: “I think Madrid and Barcelona are two great clubs. Who knows what will happen in the future, but right now I am focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with Liverpool.

“That is a difficult question [how long I will stay at Liverpool], but right now I can say that everything is in the hands of the club. Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, all the club records, but everything is in the hands of the club ”.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, James Milner and Jordan Henderson have all been injured of late and Salah was hoping to be Liverpool’s captain in their recent Champions League clash against FC Midtjylland.

However, Klopp opted to hand over the bracelet to academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold, much to Salah’s disappointment.

Salah added: “Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was hoping to be the captain, but it’s a coach’s decision. I accept it.”

On whether Liverpool can complete a Premier League and Champions League double this season, Salah continued: “I think it’s a bit early to say that, but yeah, we’re doing well just like other teams. I hope we have the best chance of winning it.

“I think that in recent seasons we have done well in the Champions League and also in the Premier. We had a good chance of winning both. Last season we were unlucky here. We will fight for both this year ”.
