Ryan Tubridy has responded to the huge backlash he received for comments about the infamous Galway student reunion this week.
Many listeners to his RTE Radio One Show on Tuesday were upset that, in his words, he “forgave” the behavior of the students.
But the presenter said some wires may have been crossed and he was simply saying that people should be a little more understanding of young people who behave like this.
Tubs told her listeners Wednesday: “I hope the students there realize that they are not going to live forever and think a little more selflessly next time.
“Because they could go home and their grandmother gets it and that’s a very difficult time.
“But a great reaction to that piece from yesterday.”
He added: “There is a little crossover cable there, I’m happy to be clear in the comments that I don’t want to hit the youngsters.
“But at the same time tell them they will kill their grandmothers, let’s be honest. Be careful folks.
“We don’t need to go around turning heads to each other and trying to make a point.
On Tuesday the host had said: “I don’t know what it’s like to go to college for the first time in a pandemic.
“You probably think you won’t make it and if you do, you think I’m young. I’ll try to avoid all those people.
“I understand why they are there.
“Leaving Cert was hopeless. They didn’t make it to Maguluf and they probably thought I can’t have some cans with people.
“It is difficult for everyone.”
