A seven-year-old boy kidnapped by an alleged pedophile has been rescued by Russian special forces almost two months after being kidnapped.
Footage from the raid in a town east of Moscow showed security officials using cutting equipment to break through a reinforced metal gate and free the young man.
The operation followed a tip from Interpol, which had been tipped off when officials in the US established a potential link between a prominent user of the underground dark web and the kidnapping.
Police forces in several countries provided information to assist in the effort to find both the user and the child.
According to intelligence, the Russian authorities were able to limit their search and identify the suspect: a 26-year-old man from Makarikha, who is about 185 miles (298 km) from the capital.
The boy, who had been missing since September 28 after he failed to return home from school, was found apparently unharmed.
The boy’s father told the Russian Tass news agency that the boy had been treated by doctors and “was fine.”
“He is healthy and has not lost weight,” added the father.
Specialists have been hired to help support the child and his family after the traumatic experience.
Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock said: “Today, a child has returned to where he belongs, with his family, thanks to dedicated specialist officers and the swift action of authorities around the world.
“While we are truly delighted that this story has a sure ending, many children are still waiting to be rescued.
“Successes like these only renew Interpol’s commitment to connecting its member countries to protect children from abusers.”
