Brave Lynsey Bennett made headlines in Ireland this week, leaving viewers in tears tonight after an emotional appearance on the Late Late Show.

Ryan Tubridy was audibly moved to hear the story of Lynsey, 32, who is seriously ill with cervical cancer.

The mother-of-two had four smear tests between 2010 and 2016, and all four came back negative.

In 2016, the last of her failed tests, she was told that no abnormalities had been found and that she would be called in for a routine test three years later.

But the following year she went to her GP with bleeding, and in January 2017 Lynsey was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer.

Tonight, the 32-year-old fought back tears as she recounted her story, which began with the loss of her own mother to cancer when Lynsey was just 21 years old.

This week, she settled her case with the HSE about reading her smear tests, and tonight she told Tubridy that she was relieved that her daughters received “financial support.”

Her devastating story, which left her baffled after a positive diagnosis despite four previous smear tests, left many listeners on the verge of tears and others in floods.

One wrote: “I cannot understand the courage it takes for people like Lynsey Bennett to speak out loud on television in this way.

“We’re the same age and I’m in awe of her and I’m ready to give her a fucking fuss too !!”

Of her battle with cancer, Lynsey said: “I was so exhausted all the time.

“The bleeding started very late in 2016 and I thought, ‘Okay, I have to go to the doctor for this.’

“On January 17, 2017, I was told that I had aggressive cervical cancer and that when I entered the hospital on the 19th, they told me that I would never have children again.

“He was 28 years old.”
