Munster and Ireland Rugby fans have plenty to get excited about after watching a fascinating post-match interview from Ronan O’Gara last night.
The former out-half’s La Rochelle team dazzled with a 27-16 victory over Gloucester to advance to the European Cup quarter-finals.
And in an enthusiastic post-game interview, the Irishman gave a glimpse of his fast-download game.
La Rochelle plays a refreshing and fluid brand of rugby, in contrast to the more worn and ruck-based Northern Hemisphere style, and O’Gara spoke about his philosophy as a coach.
“It’s a way of thinking,” O’Gara told BT Sport.
“That interests me enormously. There is a massive ruck focus in the northern hemisphere and then when you go to the Crusaders [in New Zealand] is KBA – Keep Ball Alive. And that’s something that interests me myself. You saw it tonight, in dry conditions, you don’t even have to think about catching or passing, you can. So we are trying to have speed in step and keep it alive.
“There is risk with that sometimes, but you have to weigh risk versus reward. We were good at times, and imprecise at times, but that’s the beauty of our game.”
O’Gara became a coach in 2013 after hanging up his boots and has enjoyed a season as an assistant at Racing 92 before a two-season stint in New Zealand with the Crusaders before returning to La Rochelle to take up his first coaching role. in chief.
And fans are hopeful that he will come home and one day take over for the Reds, and after last night’s interview, fans are more hopeful than ever that the dream will become a reality.
One fan tweeted: “Wonderful interview with Ronan O Gara, who seems to be enjoying his time as a coach. Won’t it be long before he returns to his beloved Munster?”
