KERRY boss Peter Keane has kept the change to a minimum for Sunday’s Munster SFC semi-final against Cork, but that creates some high-profile omissions in the Kingdom’s attack.
eane has rewarded 14 of the 15 players who started Kerry’s final Allianz League outing against Donegal, a victory that secured the Division One title. The only change is that Stephen O’Brien, who came off the bench in Tralee fifteen days ago, now displaces Micheál Burns from the beginning.
In all, ten of Kerry’s All-Ireland final replay teams from last year make it to the starting grid. The promoted five are Peter Crowley and Gavin White at the mid-back line, and the attacking trio Ronan Buckley, Tony Brosnan and Dara Moynihan (who appeared as a late substitute in Dublin’s loss 14 months ago).
Buckley, a recent county champion with East Kerry, is set to make his championship debut, having advanced as a forward when the league resumed last month.
It’s also a great opportunity for fit Brosnan to claim a longer-term residency in advance, four years after making his champion title as a substitute against Clare in the 2016 Irish quarterfinal.
Dr. Crokes’ sniper was the Man of the Game against Donegal with a loot of six points and now retains the number 13 jersey, with no place yet for Paul Geaney or James O’Donoghue on the inside line.
In hurling, Eamonn Dillon and Ronan Hayes have returned to Dublin’s attack for Saturday’s All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Cork at Semple Stadium.
The duo are rewarded for their exploits from the bench in last weekend’s rollercoaster loss to Kilkenny in a surreal Leinster semi-final, with two-time All-Star Liam Rushe and Davy Keogh losing.
Electric Dillon went 0-4 and helped create several more scores, while Hayes buried his first goal as the Dubs drifted from 16 points to parity, only to suffer heartbreak upon death.
Meanwhile, Cork has made the changes in response to Munster’s dismal outing for Waterford last weekend.
Kieran Kingston makes five changes, with Sean O’Leary Hayes, Christopher Joyce, Daire Connery and Conor Lehane falling to the bench, while Alan Cadogan, who is reportedly injured, is not on the game day panel.
This quintet is replaced by Colm Spillane in the side, Luke Meade in the center of the field and Robbie O’Flynn, Declan Dalton and Jack O’Connor in the attack.
