Republic of Ireland legend Robbie Keane paid tribute to the tragic teenager Josh Dunne, who died Tuesday.

The 16-year-old was stabbed during a fight on Dublin’s East Wall.

And former Ireland captain Keane has joined hundreds of tributes to the popular Dublin teenager.

The cool Boys in Green wrote a poignant message on Instagram, sharing a snapshot of young St. Kevin’s Boys and Bohemians.

“This is heartbreaking,” Keane said. “A talented young footballer left too early.”

It comes after Josh’s local Ballymun community yesterday honored the 16-year-old with his family saying, “Josh was an amazing, happy and talented kid.”

The sky filled with orange and black balloons Thursday afternoon as friends and family gathered to remember the hero Josh.

Ballymun teenager Josh played soccer for St Kevin’s Boys Soccer Club, where he was described as “extremely talented and popular” and had impressed minors.

Players and coaches stood arm in arm at Coultry Park yesterday wearing the number 11 jersey Josh had worn when the balloons in the club’s colors were released.

A moving statement from his family reads: “Josh was an amazing, happy, and talented boy who was tragically taken from our lives at just 16 years old.

Josh’s smile lit up every room he walked into and he had a promising career ahead of him on the football field.

“We would like to thank the public for their kind messages of support and the Ballymun community.

“We will always remember our Josh as a happy, loving and wonderful child. A dreamer and a doer “.

His club, St Kevin’s, said: “Josh was an extremely talented and popular player who loved to play football and was a great addition to the club when he joined the team of Mark Tierney and Gerry Reddy.

“He played a prominent role in the U-15 DDSL Premier Cup win over St Francis in 2019 and subsequently had tryouts with some UK clubs, with Dundee particularly interested in him.

“He went on to play for SKB / BOHS under 15 after that, but went back to playing in the main DDSL league with Mark and Gerry.

“Josh, a Chelsea fan, loved to play soccer, but with soccer down for the last 12 months, he missed it and couldn’t wait to get back to training and the irony is that if there wasn’t a pandemic, he would have been training at the time the tragedy struck.

“Sincere condolences to all of Josh’s family and friends at this tragic time.”
