The American actress Rita Wilson spoke about the terrible experience of the coronavirus of her and her husband Tom Hanks and warned about the “extreme” side effects suffered by the drugs used to treat the virus.

Wilson and Hanks were the first high-profile celebrities to publicly declare positive for Covid-19, announcing the news on March 12.

The couple was in Australia, where Hanks was working on an Elvis Presley biopic. Both have made a full recovery since then.

In his first interview since he was diagnosed, Wilson, 63, spoke to The Talk with Gayle King and detailed his symptoms.

“I felt extremely sore, uncomfortable, I didn’t want to be touched and then the fever started,” Wilson said, adding that he was “chilling like never before.”

Wilson, who is an actress and singer, said her fever reached its highest temperature about nine days after the test’s positive results, saying she “got closer” to 39C.

Hanks and Wilson are back in Los Angeles.

He also revealed that he had been given the drug chloroquine, which is generally used to prevent and treat malaria, and is being studied as a possible treatment with Covid-19.

Wilson is not sure what impact it had on her. She said, “I can only tell you that I don’t know if the medication worked or if it was just time for my fever to break, but my fever broke.”

And Wilson warned that the drug had “extreme side effects.” She felt “completely nauseous” and was unable to walk. “My muscles felt very weak,” he said.

“I think people should be very considerate of that drug,” added the star. “We really don’t know if it’s useful in this case.”

Wilson also said that the Hollywood star Hanks, who is also 63, had less severe symptoms than she did.

The two are now home in Los Angeles.
