Localized flooding is possible tonight, as Met Éireann has issued a yellow warning for several counties.

ork, Kerry, Clare, Wicklow, Waterford, Galway and Mayo received a yellow rain warning that will take effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday.

The rain will develop in the west in the late afternoon and spread across the western half of the country tonight.

Early tonight, the rain will continue to spread east to all areas. Sometimes it will be heavy with risk of localized flooding, said MET Éireann.

Between 25mm and 40mm of rain is expected to fall with heavy rains expected at times.

Heavier rains are expected in the southwest of the country and in the mountainous areas.

There is also a yellow gale warning from the state, as the southerly winds will reach gale force eight at times tonight from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Bloody Foreland, moving to the south and east coasts early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will start wet and stormy across much of the country with heavy rains for a time in the east and a continuing risk of flooding.

Brighter, sunnier weather with scattered rains will spread from the west and rain will clear from the east in the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler towards the end of the week, as Thursday will bring heavy and possibly stormy downpours with highs of 10-12 degrees.
