Luis Suárez will go down as one of Barcelona’s all-time greats, but his time at the club came to a somewhat bitter end this week. It is clear that he was almost expelled from the Camp Nou.
It’s not that hard to see why Barcelona would want to ditch the Uruguayan. He is now 33 and has had his fair share of injury problems in recent seasons. His huge salary was probably the main reason for his enthusiasm to keep going, and the player is believed to make over £ 300,000 a week.
The signing of Suárez by Atlético de Madrid, a club that seems to be a perfect fit, has already been confirmed. He certainly has the kind of feisty personality that will fall in love with Diego Simeone.
It seems like a match made in heaven, with Suárez already giving the club advice on how they can strengthen their squad.
According to AS, Luis Suárez has asked Atlético de Madrid to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal during the current transfer window.
Suárez knows the midfielder well, having been teammates on the Uruguayan national team for several years. Arsenal are believed to be open to selling Torreira, with the Premier League team reportedly seeking a fee of around € 24 million for the 24-year-old.
Luis Suárez has been the only real signing of Atlético in this window, with the permanent arrival of the loaned player Yannick Carrasco as the only other player to arrive. They have also loaned Álvaro Morata to Juventus.
Arsenal are already on the hunt for possible replacements for Torreira, and rumors surfaced today that they could make a surprising move to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. It has also been speculated that they might turn to Ateltico midfielder Thomas Partey, who has a £ 45m release clause in his contract.
