Paul Galvin resigned from his position as manager of the Wexford footballers, citing travel and time commitments as the reasons behind the unexpected decision.

The 40-year-old took over for the Yellowbellies last September and was in the middle of his inaugural league campaign in the hot seat before the coronavirus halted sports activities.

Galvin has revealed that his family moved to the west of Ireland during the confinement, with the time and travel commitments necessary to force their decision.

The 2009 Footballer of the Year will be replaced on an interim basis by his coach Shane Roche.

“Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Dublin, my family moved back to the west of Ireland. I am moving away from my role at Wexford due to the new time and travel commitments involved,” Galvin said in a statement.

“My business has also seen significant growth in recent months and needs attention. I have enjoyed the past 16 months watching, training and promoting soccer in the county since June 2019.

“I would like to thank the Wexford County Board for the opportunity and support. Thank you to the players and backroom staff as well. I believe strongly in the county’s talent.

“I hope that everyone associated with Wexford football will be successful in the near future.”

Galvin had gotten off to an encouraging start at the position, with Wexford ranking second in Division 4 after three wins before the lockout and will face Wicklow on Oct. 31 or Nov. 1 in the Leinster championship first round.

“We regret that Wexford GAA has accepted Paul Galvin’s decision to step down as football manager and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” his statement reads.

“Wexford GAA would like to thank Paul for his commitment and dedication over the past 16 months as a senior soccer coach.

“It is certainly that Wexford football is in a much stronger position thanks to their efforts during this time, which is reflected in the senior team results to date, which have put the team in contention for promotion. of Division 4 of the National Soccer League.

“The role of an inter-county administrator is one in constant evolution with an increasing level of commitment required, and particularly this year in light of the pandemic.

“We appreciate and understand the changes in Paul’s personal circumstances that have led to this decision and we wish both Paul and Louise (Galvin’s wife) the best in their new home in the west of Ireland and in their business activities.”
