Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard could make a perfect trade to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Gerrard is approaching his first title as a manager at Rangers, with Gers 19 points ahead of Celtic in the Premiership table.
In addition, they have not yet lost in the Scottish top flight and have only conceded five goals in 22 games.
Not only would the Rangers’ title be their first since 2011, it would end Celtic’s nine-crown streak.
And McCoist believes that former Liverpool captain Gerrard is proving he has all the credentials to take on the prestigious position at Anfield.
“I’ve never asked Steven this, but most people accept that his natural progression would be to coach Liverpool one day,” he said. Sun.
“Clearly to do that you have to be successful in the Rangers and that means winning trophies.
“Celtic he dominated for a decade and gives them credit for it, despite the fact that many titles came with the Rangers battling their own divisional problems.
But the Rangers are back now. The first trophy is always the hardest to win, but when they do, Steven will really be ready.
“Klopp was given time to do well at Liverpool and it took him three full seasons to win his first trophy, the success of the Champions League in 2019.
“Similarly, this is the third Rangers season and it’s time to decide. “
McCoist added that Gerrard is reaping the rewards for the faith shown by his superiors.
Gerrard reaping rewards from the Rangers
“It’s ridiculous to think he’d be under pressure if he didn’t win anything this season, considering the progress the Rangers have made,” McCoist said.
“But I know from experience that you have to hand out big trophies if you want to continue being the Rangers manager.
“Like Liverpool with KloppThe Rangers leadership has shown faith in Steven after two trophy-free seasons, and the payoff is an outstanding season at home and in Europe. . . up to this point.”
He added: “I’m sure Steven is seen by many as the eventual successor to Jurgen in Liverpool. I’m also sure Liverpool FC and Steven would like that to happen in time.
“But right now he’s not going to have a better experience in terms of a high-profile, high-pressure role than managing the Rangers.
“He made the right decision to take the job three years ago and right now I think he’s enjoying it.”
The Rangers further raised their title hopes on Saturday by beating Celtic 1-0.
