Gardaí has started an investigation into a protest held in front of Rathfarnham garda station on Sunday afternoon that was related to the arrest several hours earlier of an individual believed to be involved in organizing marches against the closure.
Around 50 people held a demonstration in front of Garda station in South Dublin after being alerted via social media about the arrest of a man in a pending warrant for a traffic offense.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, has been linked to a series of anti-mask and lockdown protests in Dublin last month.
He recorded the incident of his arrest on his Facebook account.
The vast majority of protesters were not wearing masks or following public health guidelines on social distancing.
Several Gardaí observed the scene but no arrests were made.
The man is currently detained at Rathfarnham Garda station.
A Garda spokesperson said an investigation was underway targeting the organizers of the protest.
“The advice of the Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office will be sought with respect to any further action taken,” the spokesperson said.
