Several international postal route services will resume from Ireland next week, having faced disruptions during the Covid-19 crisis.

Services to Australia, New Zealand and Singapore will begin again on September 29. Parcel delivery to the United States will also resume on this date.

Overseas and Diaspora Development Aid Minister Colm Brophy said: “I know that the news that all mail services to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States will resume next week will be a source of great Relief for the many Irish families who have sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and other relatives and friends living away from home.

“The last six months have been a very strange and anxious time for all of us. Not being able to send or receive a gift card to or from someone living abroad with whom we are close has been difficult for many people.

“Ireland has around 1.5 million citizens living out of state, scattered all over the world.

“This year, more than any other, it is important that we keep in touch with them and let them know that even if they are not here, they are part of us.”

Minister Brophy added: “I urge people to support our postal service and our diaspora around the world and if you plan to send a thought or gift from home, check in with An Post and do so soon.

“Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the number of countries a post can send mail to changes on a daily basis. Although a post still accepts and processes as much mail as possible, people should expect some delays.

“Similarly, if people expect to receive international mail, they should allow more time than usual for delivery.”

He continued: “Although our international postal service partners are working to maintain services, many of the international links used to bring mail to Ireland are experiencing significant disruptions or delays.

“There are also internal delays in several countries, including Spain, France and Luxembourg, so I would recommend people to check the An Post website for daily updates so that you can plan for any possible delays.”
