Post-mortem examinations of the bodies of a father and his two adult sons who died in an apparent murder-suicide on a farm in County Cork are due to begin this morning at Cork University Hospital.

The bodies of Tadhg O’Sullivan, 59, and his two sons, Mark, 26, and Diarmuid O’Sullivan, 23, were found with gunshot wounds on the family farm near Kanturk.

The bodies of the three men were taken by hearse to Cork University Hospital last night, where post-mortem examinations will take place later this morning as investigative gardai attempted to unravel the sequence of events that led to the fatal shootings.

Members of the Emergency Response Unit found the body of 26-year-old Mark O’Sullivan with gunshot wounds in a bedroom of the farmhouse in Assolas, near Kanturk, at lunchtime yesterday.

A short time later, the bodies of his younger brother Diarmuid, 23, and his father, Tadgh, 59, were found with fatal gunshot wounds almost half a kilometer away in a field.

Gardai seized two rifles and a shotgun.

One line of investigation Gardai is following is that the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute over the land.

They have renewed their appeal so that witnesses who may have seen or heard something in the area beforehand can contact them.

Meanwhile, the Garda Technical Burear is due to resume his forensic examination at the scene this morning.
