Seven Pomeranian puppies have been transferred to an animal rescue service after being found in the trunk of a speeding car.

The cubs were found after Gardaí stopped a young man traveling at high speed on the M7 in Mayfield, on the outskirts of Monastrevin, on Saturday 29 August.

Gardaí has said that the dogs were too small to be separated from their mother and the driver did not have the relevant documentation to justify the well-being of the puppies.

None of the dogs were vaccinated or microchipped.

They have since been transferred to the care of the KWWSPCA in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

A spokesperson said their health and temperament have “improved a lot” and they are “becoming happier and more confident.”

She said the cubs are around seven weeks old.

The driver received a Notice of Fixed Charge Penalty for speeding and a file is being prepared for the Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in relation to the seizure of the dogs.

No arrests have been made.
